Publix Savannah Women’s Half & 5K Planned for 2015

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah Sports Council and Publix announced this week that the Publix Savannah Women’s Half & 5K will be held for the first time on March 28, 2015. More than 3,000 women are expected to register to run in the female-exclusive event.

“The Sports Council is excited to add this new running event to our calendar. We have done the research and believe the Publix Savannah Women’s Half & 5K will attract women from all over the U.S., who will hopefully turn the weekend into a girls getaway,” said Ben Wilder, Savannah Sports Council director.

The route, with start and finish lines located in Forsyth Park, takes runners through 12 of Savannah’s squares and down live oak-lined streets in Savannah’s Historic District and Daffin Park. A Fashion Fitness Expo will be held the day before the race from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Savannah Hilton DeSoto for packet pick-up, shopping and entertainment.

“We are honored to support, and to be aligned with the Savannah Sports Council for the inaugural Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon and 5K. This event will be one engages our customers and neighbors by supporting healthy initiatives through nutrition and exercise,” said Dwaine Stevens, manager of media and community relations at Publix.
