Attend the Savannah Sports Council’s Georgia Power Sports Awards Luncheon September 26

SAVANNAH, Ga. — Local athletes and partners will be honored at the Savannah Sports Council’s Sports Awards luncheon, sponsored by Georgia Power, on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Savannah Golf Club.

The Sports Awards Luncheon is an annual fundraiser for the Sports Council and an opportunity to recognize local athletes and industry partners. The event will feature the John F. Hodges O.A.S.I.S. Award, the Generations Awards, an Award of Excellence, the Sports Event of the Year Award and a “Top Moments in Sports” video produced by WJCL / Fox 28.

Networking will begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at noon. Table sponsorships are available for $425 for a table sponsor, $225 for a half table sponsor and $60 for an individual ticket.

Listed below are the recipients of the 2013 Georgia Power Sports Awards, who have excelled at their given sport or business:

  • The John F. Hodges O.A.S.I.S. Award, sponsored by the Savannah Morning News, goes to an individual who has shown outstanding achievement in sports in Savannah.

2013 Recipient: Joe Roberts, Retired Armstrong Atlantic State University Baseball Coach and Winningest NCAA Division II Coach of All Time.

  • The Generations Awards, presented by Georgia Power, is awarded to an individual or team that has excelled in their given sport over the past year.

2013 Recipients:

Boys Basketball, Sol C. Johnson High School

Boys Basketball, Memorial Day School

Women’s Tennis, Armstrong Atlantic State University

Women’s Lacrosse, SCAD Athletics

Swimming, SCAD Athletics

Savannah Sand Gnats

  • The Sports Event of the Year Award, sponsored by the Sports Council, is presented to an organization/local sporting event that has excelled in promoting its given sport by having a safe and successful community event.

2013 Recipient: Savannah Challenger, a Har-Tru United States Tennis Association (USTA) Pro Circuit Event.

  • The 2013 Sports Council Award of Excellence goes to the YMCA of Coastal Georgia in special recognition of its dedication and commitment to youth sports.
